Duty Calls
From Bridget Foley, Executive Editor
The airport early bird gets to kill time perusing duty free. So at 6:45 this morning in Paris, guess who was checking out the Marc by Marc Jacobs bag selection at a recently installed LVMH shop at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle? None other than the designer himself.
Jacobs, travelling alone, was waiting for the 8:25 Air France flight to New York, en route to a Fourth of July weekend in the Hamptons with friends. “I was walking by and there they were,” he said. “[The display] didn’t exist the last time I was here.”
Dressed in a jacket and button-down shirt (he changed into sweats on the plane) Jacobs looked dapper and quite fresh while operating on no sleep. He had stayed in the office until 4 a.m. to justify taking Thursday and Friday off from work, rushed home to pack and then, after a scolding from his driver about not being late to the airport, found himself with some available shopping time.
No, he didn’t purchase any Marc by Marc, but took off for kiosks less familiar. He found success at Hermès — six leather bookmarks, each decorated with a different animal. “There will be six of us [for the weekend],” Jacobs said. “I figure there’ll be a lot of reading by the pool, so everybody will get one.”

Bookmark...cute.
Nice thought.

I meet Marc in Paris on the Eurostar we were both headed to London. He was so cool, and just plain nice! It made go out and by some clothes from his latest collection, like music I like to support great talent.
